Ensuring Chart’s Success…

Chart's design engineers are critical in providing a variety of engineering and technical service design and support activities for Chart’s Industrial Gas and Cold Storage Product Lines.  They work closely with designers and manufacturing to meet code, product, production, and customer specifications.  Individuals interested in this position must be independent, results-oriented, and self-motivated mechanical engineers.

What Your Day-to-Day Activities Will Be…

  • Design, develop, prototype, and test mechanical products
  • Perform engineering calculations associated with cryogenic vacuum insulated tanks, pressure vessels, and process piping and analysis with emphasis placed on quality of work and work efficiency.
  • Effectively utilize broad knowledge of engineering practices to create and maintain a complete product Device Master File (e.g., calculations, drawings, bills of materials, risk analysis and validation testing data) and Technical Files.
  • Ensure that work completed by designers and drafters adheres to company procedures and policies, is manufacturable, and meets customer and regulatory requirements.
    Prepare rigorous documentation for all phases of projects (e.g. phase-gate process, technical specifications, validation test plans and reports, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop & maintain project plans, coordinate project activities, create & meet milestones.
  • Ensure that meetings, project reviews, and action lists are current and communicated to all stakeholders in a timely fashion.
  • Work closely with supply chain to ensure availability of materials necessary for the product under development or revision.
  • Maintain consistency with company-wide business plan, quality, and safety objectives in developing new products and revising current products.
  • Continuously review products and processes; and implement continuous improvements.
  • Provide hands-on, sustaining engineering support for products from commercial release to end of life.

Your Professional Experience Should Be…

  • 3-7 years of experience with engineering, design, fabrication, and testing of mechanical equipment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with design, manufacturing, field operation, quality, and maintenance personnel as required.
  • Ability to understand and interpret industrial and medical device codes and common engineering practices used in the cold-storage industry, such as the European Medical Device Directive, (MDD) 93/42/EEC.
  • Ability to take medium to large projects from concept and development through approval, engineering review, completion, and integration with manufacturing.
  • Desire and ability to do hands-on technical work, including product testing.

Your Education Should Be…

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering

Your Physical Work Environment Will Require…

  • Moving around the production floor and investigating and solving production equipment and product issues.
  • Lift up to 15 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Sitting, standing, stooping, bending and other tasks in an office and production setting.
  • Willing and able to travel domestically and internationally as required to meet company and project requirements (approximately 10%).
