Ensuring Chart’s Success…

The Process Engineer has direct responsibility for the development and improvement of Chart process technologies to meet customer requirements.  He/She must work well within a small team environment while preparing process and performance deliverables for proposals, technical evaluations and new process designs; will often lead the development efforts of a team, as well as perform as an individual contributor.  Presentation of development results and proposals to customers is an essential component of the daily engineering activities.

What Your Day-to-Day Activities Will Be…

  • Evaluate new process designs for process improvement, energy savings, capacity enhancement, etc.
  • Perform process simulations (including dynamic simulations)
  • Evaluate mass and thermal constraints of process design and identify margins on process equipment
  • Generate heat and material balances as needed
  • Prepare process equipment data sheets and equipment lists as needed
  • Prepare Process Flow Diagrams as needed
  • Assist in the review of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams
  • Be familiar with process systems calculations, including line sizing, hydraulic evaluations and relief valve sizing
  • Write process descriptions, study reports, articles for publication, etc.
  • Assist process development work performed by other Process and Junior Process Engineers
  • Prepare patent disclosures and support patent applications
  • Analyze process data to evaluate equipment, instrumentation and process performance
  • Review Start-up and Operating Manuals
  • Participate in unit HAZID, HAZOP, process safety review and start-ups

Your Professional Experience Should Be…

  • Knowledge of chemical engineering “First Principles”
  • Working knowledge of HYSYS or SimSci process simulation software
  • Knowledge of HYSYS DYNAMIC or DYNSIM dynamic simulation software
  • Knowledge of cryogenic process technologies
  • Understands basic applicable engineering codes
  • Proven teamwork skills
  • Sound organizational skills for completing tasks as scheduled
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written to explain challenges and solutions  
  • Good interpersonal skills to successfully interface other engineering disciplines and customers
  • Both internal and external customer focused

Your Education Should Be…

  • Bachelors in Chemical Engineering from US University, or a Bachelors in Chemical Engineering from a foreign university and Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering from a US University
  • 10-20 years process development and/or engineering experience
  • PE certificate desirable
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Membership in a professional society
