Cooler By Design” – Chart’s core business is centered around the design and fabrication of cryogenic equipment.  The Fabricator/Welder position plays a key role in the manufacturing process of Chart’s products at our Ball Ground, Georgia facility.  Employees will enjoy working four 10-hour days (overtime is generally Friday).  We currently have openings on both day and night shifts.  

What Will You Do?

  • Performs welding activities, including hand welding and material handling equipment, under general supervision
  • Welds metal parts on fixtures including attaching jigs and clamps to hold metal parts in proper position
  • Determines type and gauge of steel to be welded making appropriate adjustments, as required, on large thickness variations
  • Uses blueprints and design sketches to ensure the proper dimensions and tolerance levels, as well as correct components installed on the finished product
  • Measure components using calipers, tape measures, and micrometers to ensure adherence to tolerances and specifications
  • Updates and maintains all required documentation associated with job responsibilities
  • Assume responsibility and care of assigned tools and equipment
  • Maintains a clean work area and general housekeeping standards, such as care for assigned tools and proper disposal of hazardous waste 
  • Understands and practices established safety and quality standard procedures, including utilization of chemical solutions to clean containers
  • Performs all tasks to ISO standards and requirements
  • May be required to perform mass spec and visual inspections meeting stringent visual requirements
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this role, including close vision. color evaluations and the ability to adjust to focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration. Medium to loud noise level in the work environment

Your Experience Should Be...

Required:

  • Ability to pass MIG 3G vertical weld test
  • Basic math skills (weight measurement, volume, distance, multiplication, and division)
  • Operate cranes and other lifting equipment safely to move heavy materials during the fabrication process.
  • Fabricate brackets, stiffeners, and other supports using layout tools and tape measures.
  • Attention to detail essential
  • Self-starter expected to manage workload with general direction and supervision
  • Overtime and weekend hours, as needed

 

Preferred:

  • ASME 31.3 certifications - carbon, stainless and aluminum 
  • AWS D1.1 certification for structural steel
  • Proven ability to identify, reason and problem solve minor non-conformities and deviations 
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Familiarity with ISO procedures
