Company: Chart Industries

Ensuring Chart’s Success…

Chart Industries is a global leader in the design and manufacture of cryogenic equipment.  Chart’s cryogenic distribution and storage division is seeking an engineer skilled in the use of finite element analysis (FEA) to assist engineering teams around the globe in the design of cryogenic equipment.  A primary focus of this position is the utilization of FEA to assess the structural robustness of welded structures.  Additionally, there are projects which may provide opportunities to work on CFD and/or explicit dynamic simulations.  Individuals interested in this position must be independent and self-motivated to provide support to Chart engineering teams around the globe.

What Your Day-to-Day Activities Will Be…

  • Receive large assembly CAD models from design engineering team
  • Prepare CAD geometry for use in FEA
  • Apply appropriate connections, loads, and boundary conditions
  • Analyze results for structural robustness
  • Report back to the design engineering team the results and as applicable provide input for potential design improvements
  • Continue working with the design engineering team to address design changes, update models, and re-run and analyze simulations until a desirable design is achieved
  • Produce PowerPoint presentations and on occasion reports to document results

Your Education Should Be…

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering plus 3 years experience or an advanced degree with FEA experience.

Your Professional Experience Should Be…

  • 1 or more years of experience with using FEA simulations to design and verify the structural integrity of structures is preferred
  • Experience and strong knowledge and skills in the Ansys FEA software is highly preferred
  • Experience and strong knowledge and skills in a different FEA software is acceptable with willingness to learn and use the Ansys FEA software
  • Strong CAD skills is important for the efficient conversion of CAD models designed for manufacturing to be used in Ansys FEA.  As well as for executing design changes.  Experience with Solidworks is preferred
  • Strong communication skills are required to gather the correct information to properly model the load cases of interest and to be able to communicate results and design ideas to design engineering teams around the globe through the use of calls, screen shares, sketches, emails, PowerPoints, and reports
  • CFD experience preferred
  • Explicit dynamic simulation experience, particularly in LS-DYNA, is a bonus
  • Experience in the analysis of welded structures is preferred
  • Experience with cryogenic equipment is a bonus
