This position can be located in Tulsa, OK, Ball Ground, GA or New Prague, MN.
Working onsite in the office is preferred, but there is flexibility for remote work.
The Sales/Application Engineer, Vacuum Insulated Piping (VIP) is responsible for piping design, system sizing, and product selection for Chart’s VIP proposals. This role ensures the technical integrity of projects, including compliance with project scope, job specifications, engineering designs, and client requirements. The position requires a strong understanding of cryogenic fluid transfer, vacuum insulation principles, and industry applications. The engineer will also be responsible for maintaining the technical accuracy of cost estimates, system configurations, and product selections.
What Will You Do?
Technical & Process Design:
- Review customer specifications, piping layouts, and process requirements to assess feasibility and develop optimized vacuum insulated piping solutions
- Perform engineering calculations related to heat transfer, pressure drop, flow rates, vacuum jacket construction, and thermal contraction management
- Ensure designs conform to Chart engineering standards, industry codes, and customer requirement
Proposal Development & Costing:
- Lead the development of project proposals from concept to order entry with minimal technical supervision
- Work with engineering, procurement, and manufacturing teams to ensure the technical and cost accuracy of proposals.
- Develop and issue supplier inquiry specifications, analyze bids, and make supplier selection recommendations.
Customer Interaction & Solution Development:
- Engage closely with customers to develop application-specific VIP solutions that maximize efficiency and minimize operational risks.
- Grow and manage customer relationships during the project development phase.
- Provide technical guidance to customers on system design, piping integration, and insulation performance.
Sales & Business Development Support:
- Work collaboratively with Chart’s Sales teams to identify new market opportunities and improve existing product offerings.
- Support commercial teams in negotiating technical terms within sales agreements.
- Present VIP solutions to customers, emphasizing system performance, reliability, and total cost of ownership benefits.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Assist in developing project schedules and budgets
- Stay informed on industry advancements, new technologies, and evolving standards related to VIP systems.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Your Physical Work Environment Will Require…

When in the production facility, there could be:
- Exposure to metal cutting, welding odors, welding flash and incidental acceptable limits of x-ray radiation
- Possible exposure to chemical odors and temperature extremes
- Exposure to overhead objects and occasional flying debris
- Required use of safety glasses with side shields, ANSI approved steel-toed safety shoes, hearing protection and hard hat
Your Experience Should Be...
- 3 years of experience in the engineering, design, or application of vacuum insulated piping, cryogenic fluid transfer systems, or industrial gas equipment.
- Knowledge of relevant codes and standards, such as ASME B31.3, ASME B31.12, ASME Section VIII Division 1, NFPA 55, and NFPA 59A.
- Strong understanding of vacuum technology, heat leak prevention, and thermal cycling considerations.
- Willing and able to travel as required to meet project and company needs.
- Strong technical aptitude with the ability to analyze and solve complex engineering problems.
- Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with Salesforce, AutoCAD, or other engineering software is preferred.
- Awareness and understanding of company safety and quality standards.
Your Education Should Be…
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial or related field).
- Sufficient relevant industry experience will be considered in lieu of a formal degree.
