We invite applications for the Service Technician position at our Howden Africa Compressors & Turbines Division in Sasolburg. The Service Technician will provide technical, service and aftermarket- customer support during field service activities on various types of compressors, fans, roots type blowers and turbines. Diagnosing machinery, process and operating problems on rotating machinery and auxiliary equipment.

What Will You Do?

 

•   Perform service/repair on rotational equipment and multi-brand compressors; both oil-injected and oil-free.

•   Ability to interpret and understand PID, drawings, manuals, etc., related to all types of compressors, turbines, and blowers.

•   Navigate multi-brand compressor controllers to obtain data to assist in troubleshooting.

•   Install new equipment (Construction Job Sites and Retrofits).

•   Conduct statutory and insurance examinations on rotational equipment.

•   Diagnose errors or technical problems and determine proper solutions.

•   Produce timely and detailed service reports.

•   Comprehend customer requirements and make appropriate recommendations.

•   Managing service contracts on customer sites.

•   Laser alignment of equipment.

•   Commissioning of the plant.

•   Support workshop associates when required.

Your Experience Should Be...

 

  • Trade test certificate in Fitting or National Higher Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Refrigeration experience and a formal license/ trade test certificate in Ammonia CAT B
  • A minimum of 6 years of related experience in the rotating equipment field.
  • A high level of analytical ability is required to find solutions to technical problems, both mechanical and electrical
  • Proficiency in problem solving, process analysis, and the capacity to troubleshoot.
  • Read and comprehend written technical information in the form of technical manuals, drawings, parts books, and relevant publications is essential.
  • Must be medically fit to perform duties and be familiar with job site safety requirements.
  • Computer literate and proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • A firm commitment to customer service excellence in all circumstances.
  • Strong technical knowledge of Rotating Equipment (reciprocating, centrifugal and screw compressors, steam turbines, Roots and centrifugal blowers)
  • Valid passport holder, a valid driver’s license, and overhead crane license.
