We invite applications for the position of Workshop & Field Service Manager at our Howden Africa Compressors & Turbines Division in Sasolburg. The Workshop and Field Service Manager will be responsible for overseeing all workshop operations and field service activities related to the repair, maintenance, overhaul, and installation of compressors, turbines, and associated rotating equipment. This role ensures operational excellence, safety compliance, customer satisfaction, and profitability of service operations.
What Will You Do?
- Operational Management: Manage day-to-day workshop operations, including repair, refurbishment, and testing of compressors, turbines, and auxiliary equipment. Plan, schedule, and coordinate workshop & field service activities, including breakdowns, shutdowns, and planned maintenance.
- Technical Oversight: Provide technical support and guidance to workshop and field service teams. Review technical reports, root cause analyses (RCA), and failure investigations. Ensure adherence to OEM specifications, engineering drawings, and quality standards.
- Health, Safety & Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to EHS policies, procedures, and legal regulations. Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and toolbox talks. Ensure all workshop and site activities comply with industry standards and client requirements. Promote a strong safety culture within teams.
- Customer & Project Management: Serve as a key point of contact for customers regarding service delivery and technical matters. Ensure timely and high-quality service delivery aligned with contractual obligations. Support sales teams with technical input, quotations, and service proposals.
- Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and develop workshop and field service personnel. Conduct performance reviews, identify training needs, and ensure competency development. Build a high-performance team culture focused on accountability and continuous improvement.
- Financial & Budget Control: Manage service department budgets, costs, and profitability. Monitor labour efficiency, parts usage, and job costing. Identify opportunities to improve margins and reduce operational costs. Approve purchase requisitions and manage supplier relationships.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure all repairs and fieldwork meet company quality standards and specifications. Conduct inspections and audits to ensure compliance with procedures. Setting and discussing Performance objectives and Development Plans.
Your Experience Should Be...
- Qualified Artisan - Fitter & Turner
- Mechanical Engineering Qualification (N6 or Diploma/Degree)
- 10+ years’ experience in rotating equipment (compressors and/or turbines)
- 3–5 years in a supervisory or management role
- Strong background in workshop and field service operations.
- Experience with OEM equipment
- Knowledge of condition monitoring and predictive maintenance technologies.
- Leadership and team management skills
- Willingness to travel for site support and emergency breakdowns
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
