Howden South Africa division in Booysens is looking for an experienced Storeperson. In this role, you will manage the day-to-day operation of the workshop stores, ensuring continuous availability of PPE, consumables, and non-stock items to support uninterrupted production. This role is responsible for comprehensive inventory control, efficient stock issuance, procurement support, and logging maintenance requests while upholding a clean, safe, and highly efficient storage environment.

What Will You Do?

 

  • Replenish workshop consumables and stock from Main Stores to maintain required stock levels.
  • Issue consumables, tools, welding consumables, and PPE to artisans and workshop personnel, maintaining accurate issue records.
  • Procure approved PPE and ensure adequate stock is always available for workshop employees.
  • Monitor and control workshop inventory, conduct stock checks, and report shortages or discrepancies.
  • Ensure welding rods are baked, stored, and controlled in accordance with company procedures and maintain the required records.
  • Raise purchase requisitions for non-stock items, consumables, tools, services, and materials required by the workshop.
  • Follow up on purchase requisitions to support the timely supply of materials and services.
  • Receive and log maintenance requests from workshop personnel and maintain appropriate records.
  • Manage the return, disposal, and control of obsolete, damaged, or surplus consumables.
  • Coordinate the removal and replacement of scrap steel skips and support recycling and waste management activities.
  • Operate a forklift safely for the loading, unloading, movement, and storage of materials and consumables within the workshop.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe Stores area.
  • Comply with all company health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
  • Perform any other reasonable stores, procurement, or administrative duties required to support workshop operations.
  • Adhere to Sarbanes Oxley and AX controls.

Your Experience Should Be...

 

  • Grade 12 / Matric.
  • Forklift/ Overhead crane license
  • Certificate in Stores/Materials/Warehouse Management.
  • 2 to 5 years' experience in a stores, warehouse, or workshop support role.
  • Experience in stock control, material issuing, and inventory management.
  • Experience in a manufacturing, engineering, fabrication, or industrial environment.
  • Computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and ERP systems.
  • Good organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and accurately.
