REPORTS TO:

Controller

 

JOB TITLE:

Assistant Controller   

 

SUPERVISES:

Payroll, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payables, and General Accounting

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Minimum Education: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting

 

Minimum Experience:

  • 6 years of accounting experience
  • 3 years of experience with “Big 4” Accounting Firm
  • 3 years of experience in industry with supervisory responsibilities
  • JD Edwards and/or system implementation experience, a plus
  • SOX 404 Controls implementation experience, a plus

 

Skills required (i.e. certifications, licenses, registrations, etc.):

  • CPA preferred

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Assist the controller in directing the accounting functions of a $200 million revenue recently acquired subsidiary of a $1 billion revenue public company
  • Lead the monthly close processes including the consolidation of multiple locations
  • Supervising multiple employees in the accounting and payroll areas
  • Preparation of budgets and financial reports as well as overseeing their review and evaluation
  • Oversee the internal control environment including SOX 404 implementation
  • Presenting various accounting reports to senior management with observations and commentary
  • Monitor investment policies and operations of the company
  • Managing operational data and maintaining data accuracy and integrity
  • Check and monitor work flow to ensure that all accounting transactions are processed accurately and in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Reviewing financial data periodically to ensure completeness and fair presentation methodology
  • Review and justifies the expense reports and other expenditures
  • Supervises the preparation of monthly journal entries
  • Handle personally or supervises general ledger reconciliations
  • Responsible for Project accounting employing percentage of completion accounting
  • Help maintain accountability of the financial resources of the company
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements
  • Assist controller with a variety of tasks as needed
  • Handle special projects as requested by management
  • Help with Company year-end audit preparation
  • Assist with safeguarding Company assets
  • Committed to staying current on changes in financial reporting and tax regulations and other industry developments

Job Summary

An assistant controller manages the accounting functions under the general direction of the Controller, including applying and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures.  Provides oversight and coordination of operating reports and statutory filings, establishes and maintains financial controls, and manages a staff of accountants, clerks and payroll administrators.  The assistant controller assists in setting strategic direction for the accounting department, aligning department goals to help achieve its objectives.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries and complaints
  • Effective and persuasive presentation skills on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups and/or board of directors
  • Displays knowledge of math and exceptional accounting skills
  • Possesses strong leadership, supervisory and management abilities
  • Has excellent critical thinking as well as analytical skills
  • Exhibits strong computer skills and knowledge of relevant technology
  • Demonstrates knowledge of financial software programs
  • Possesses exceptional organizational skills and is an effective time manager and multi-tasker
  • Displays the ability to pay close attention to detail
  • Demonstrates good interpersonal skills along with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Has a working knowledge of accounting practices and financial accounting standards
  • Has a working knowledge of payroll regulations and rules or is willing to research accordingly
  • Excellent Excel skills are needed and experience in an ERP financial implementation is a plus

  • Necessary safety equipment when required to visit shop floor.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.
