Howden South Africa is looking for an experienced Aftermarket Engineer. The position will be responsible for providing a competent engineering and design resource to external and internal clients.

What Will You Do?

  1. Provide support to Service, Spares and Manufacturing departments.
  2. Carry out Engineering tasks and investigations to assist Howden’s effort at supporting Howden aftermarket
  3. Lead major investigations and projects from an Engineering perspective.
  4. Undertake new equipment selections & designs to produce a fit-for-purpose end-product per the user specification
  5. Assess the condition of existing equipment & generate repair procedures & reports to produce a fit-for-purpose reconditioned product.
  6. Check & approve (sign-off) designs, repair procedures, drawings & other engineering tasks performed by others to ensure correctness & that errors are not carried through to production
  7. Provide workable engineering solutions to problems experienced by both internal & external clients to ensure their needs are met
  8. Develop external client relationships to promote the Howden product range & with the view to introducing enhancements to existing equipment
  9. Lead, mentor, delegate & monitor progress of tasks assigned to less experienced engineering staff to ensure an even workload spread for the department & assist with their development
  10. Provide expert power plant process knowledge as applied to the Howden product range to ensure equipment operation is in keeping with design intentions
  11. Develop & revise Engineering Department documentation (e.g. specifications, design manuals, welding procedures, software etc.) to ensure they are relevant & up-to-date

Your Experience Should Be...

  • B.Sc Mechanical Engineering or B.Eng. Mechanical Engineering
  • Fan performance testing and vibration troubleshooting
  • Vibration and welding knowledge and experience
  • 10 years experience in a heavy engineering workshop
  • Proficient in MS Office especially PowerPoint presentations
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
