This exciting position will provide you with an opportunity to apply your engineering expertise in a collaborative environment. You will be focused on developing new cryogenic and industrial gas products, taking them from concept to volume production. Assignments are broad in nature requiring the ideal candidate show initiative, be comfortable navigating through ambiguity and be an effective team player. Additionally, this individual will need strong problem-solving skills and general engineering knowledge in the areas of heat transfer, fluids, thermodynamics, and structural analysis
What Your Day-to-Day Activities Will Be…
Major Areas of Accountability:
- Participate in cross-functional teams to successfully develop and launch new products on time and within budget, in accordance with Chart's product development process
- Serve as technical lead, able to engage others to ensure successful product launch. Interaction will occur with a variety of functions, including sales, product management, marketing, quality, sourcing, procurement, finance, accounting, product lifecycle engineering, manufacturing engineering, and production
- Work with suppliers to design and develop subcomponents and subassemblies
- Interface with customers to confirm design direction and product features
Other Essential Duties:
- Assist in the creation of business plans for new products
- Manage all product development engineering tasks
- Maintain project specific documentation per Chart's product development process
- Provide regular status updates to project manager and engineering stakeholders
- Manage the prototype phase of a product, debugging when necessary
- Evaluate required product documentation before releasing a product
- Define appropriate design verification testing to ensure product quality
- Work with manufacturing engineer, quality, and production to ensure production readiness and successful product launch
- Support customer beta testing efforts as necessary
- Support initial production efforts as needed to help address start-up challenges
Your Education Should Be…
- BS Engineering degree, preferably in Mechanical Engineering but will consider Aerospace, Materials Science, or Nuclear Engineering disciplines
- MS degree and/or MBA is a plus
Your Physical Work Environment Will Require…
Working Conditions
- Production factory support and office environment
- Minimal work related travel may be required (approximately 5-10%)
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, sitting and walking
- Frequent lifting up to 25 lbs., occasional heavier lifting
- Frequent computer work
Work Hazards:
- Production floor environment will involve possible exposure to materials with rough edges, temperature extremes, moving mechanical parts, occasional flying debris, chemical cleaning solvents and their odors.
- Working with cryogenic products will involve possible exposure to pressurized flammable gas, pressurized oxidizing gas, pressurized inert gas and very low temperatures (-320º F).
Your Professional Experience Should Be…
Required: Minimum 3+ years of relevant engineering experience
Preferred: At least 3 years of experience bringing new products to life in small to mid-sized companies; project management exposure or direct experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Highly motivated self-starter and a team leader
- Demonstrated ability to plan and manage multiple tasks
- Desire to drive accountability across project teams and functional team members
- Understanding of heat transfer and fluid flow
- Basic understanding of cryogenic liquids, compressed gases and their properties
- Must be proficient with MS Office, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Exposure to JD Edwards, SAP or similar ERP system preferred
- Strong CAD skills a plus
