What Will You Do?
The Supplier SQA & Supplier Development Engineer (Welding & Fabrication) ensures that suppliers deliver fabricated and welded components consistently meet technical, quality, and delivery requirements. The role involves supplier qualification, welding process validation, continuous improvement, capability development, and risk mitigation across the supply chain.
Role Summary:
The Supplier SQA & Supplier Development Engineer is responsible for ensuring the quality, capability, and performance of welding and fabrication suppliers. The role focuses on supplier quality assurance, supplier development, welding process validation, and driving continuous improvement in the supply base.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct supplier audits for welding & fabrication processes and assess capability, capacity, and compliance.
2. Review and approve supplier documents such as WPS, PQR, WPQ, ITP/QAP, and NDT procedures.
3. Perform in-process and final inspections at supplier sites, including welding quality checks, fit-up, dimensions, and NDT verification.
4. Manage supplier non-conformances (NCR/CAR/SCAR) and drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
5. Develop suppliers through capability improvement plans, process upgrades, and productivity enhancement.
6. Support new supplier identification, qualification, and onboarding for welding & fabrication parts.
7. Drive localization/indigenization projects and support proto/sample validation.
8. Track supplier performance metrics—quality PPM, OTD, audit scores, and improvement actions.
9. Coordinate with Engineering, Projects, Procurement, and Production teams to ensure alignment on technical requirements.
Your Experience Should Be...
- BE/BTech/MTech in Mechanical / Metallurgical / Welding / Production Engineering.
- Total work Experience of 6 -10 Year is reputed engineering industry.
- Strong knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, SAW) and fabrication methods.
- Understanding of ASME, AWS, ISO 3834, EN ISO 15614, and related welding standards.
- Experience in NDT methods (RT/UT/MT/PT); Level-II preferred.
- Ability to interpret manufacturing drawings, GD&T, and material specifications.
- Strong problem-solving skills (5 Why, Fishbone, 8D).
- Experience in supplier audits and supplier capability development.
- Preferable certifications: CSWIP 3.1 / AWS-CWI / WRI-CWI/ ASNT Level II / ISO 9001 Lead Auditor.
- Supplier PPM & defect reduction, NCR/SCAR closure effectiveness, Supplier capability improvement, Supplier capability improvement & on-time delivery with quality.
