Position Summary

The Drafting Technician is responsible for creating detail and assembly drawings to scale, equipment, machines, or structures from rough sketches and specification sheets or general design drawings for fabrication or engineering purposes.

Day-to-Day Activities

  • Create drawings, charts, graphs, wiring or circuit diagrams from specific information as obtained from previous drawings, marked prints, freehand sketches, specifications, standard catalogues, or other engineering or statistical data.  They may also assist others in taking shop or field measurements, and making rough sketches or drawings of products, machines or structures in the
  • Must demonstrate the ability to make clear, accurate drawings, embodying the best current drafting practices, symbols, standards and nomenclature as adopted by the Company, and documented in the Engineering Drafting Manual.
  • Create shop order packages required to supplement the production drawing packages.
  • Check detail and assembly drawings and shop orders, not only dimensionally, but also to confirm that the designs, drawings and shop orders contain accurate assembly and fabrication data and adhere fully to engineering and drafting standards and shop practices as adopted by the Company.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Professional Experience

  • Should be familiar with engineering terms and symbols, and have basic knowledge of shop practices. 
  • Understand the proper usage of materials while using reference books or handbooks and have the ability to make simple or routine dimensional and technical calculations.
  • Handle engineering changes and drawing/shop order revisions. May do a considerable amount of revisions for drawings/shop orders in conjunction with maintenance of engineering drawings
  • Willingness to learn and practice multiple engineering disciplines such as vessel design, design of steel structures, and design of piping systems, as required to accomplish the above listed essential duties.

Education

  • Associate’s degree in Mechanical Design or
  • One year of post-high school technical training in mechanical drafting plus two to three years of actual experience.

This is an office environment position.
