Ensuring Chart’s Success…

The Maintenance Tech 6 will perform skilled duties in the trouble-shooting and repair of manufacturing machines control mechanisms and material handling equipment.  Examines, disassembles, repairs and rebuilds machines and equipment.  Install new machinery, fixtures and necessary hook-ups.  May design and build machine guards, shields, and related attachments.  Perform facilities maintenance involving welding, plumbing, painting, carpentry and other maintenance duties, as assigned.  Responsibilities associated with the proper storage and handling of hazardous waste materials.

What Your Day-to-Day Activities Will Be…

  • Build or modify complex production equipment by use of blueprints, engineering drawing or verbal instructions.
  • Trouble shoot, repair, or rebuild complex manufacturing equipment such as vacuum pumps, mass spec machines, rollers, machine tools, presses, cranes, forklifts and automatic production equipment.
  • Conduct periodic maintenance inspections as required on various shop equipment and tools.
  • Install new production equipment and necessary hook-ups.
  • Will, as needed, supervise Maintenance Tech I personnel in completing complex maintenance duties requiring assistance of one or more persons.
  • Alter, modify or repair designated plant facilities, tools or equipment to conform to OSHA Standards.
  • Observe and practice safety procedures and policies.
  • Handling and labeling of hazardous waste storage devices.
  • Routine inspections of hazardous material storage.
  • Assist with the handling of hazardous material for shipment including necessary paperwork.
  • Perform duties as assigned during response to spills and emergencies involving hazardous waste and materials.
     

Your Professional Experience Should Be…

  • Knowledge and understanding of Company safety procedures and policies.
  • Awareness and understanding of Company quality standards.
  • Understand and use basic blueprints.
  • Understand and use basic math.
  • Knowledge and skilled with welding and fabrication techniques. 
  • Understanding of complex construction techniques.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and isolate malfunctions.
  • Knowledge and understanding of hazardous wastes and material safety data sheets.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work station with equipment in safe operating condition.
  • Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Your Education Should Be…

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience/training.
  • Blue print reading course.
  • Vocational/technical training in machining, welding, electrical or mechanical.

Your Physical Work Environment Will Require…

  • Frequent standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, twisting, and occasional crawling.
  • Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs., occasional heavier lifting.
  • Frequent pushing, pulling, and handling of materials.
  • Frequent carrying up to 50 lbs., occasional heavier carrying.
  • Frequent climbing and working at elevated positions.
  • Exposure to metal cutting and welding odors.
  • Required use of safety glasses with side shields, ANSI approved steel-toed safety shoes, welding helmets, and hard hats (in designated areas).
  • Exposure to chemical cleaning solutions and their odors.
  • Possible handling of material with rough edges.
  • Possible exposure to temperature extremes.
  • Possible exposure to overhead objects.
  • Possible exposure to occasional flying debris.
  • Possible exposure to chemical cleaning solutions and their odors.
