Ensuring Chart’s Success…

Chart is seeking a Welder for our day shift that can perform complex and critical welding operations, which require full range of experience and training.  This position will weld various types of metal, using GMAW, GTAW and Sub-arc welding, Plasma-arc cutting and AIR-arc Gouging Machines.  Requires welding certifications.


What Your Day-to-Day Activities Will Be…

  1. Perform welding and other related manufacturing activities with minimum instruction and minimum supervision.
  2. Layout, assemble and weld according to engineered drawings, work instructions and welding procedure specifications.
  3. Ability to judge the type and gauge of steel to be welded, making proper heat adjustments as required by welding procedure specifications.
  4. Position welded metal parts on fixtures; attaching jigs and clamps as needed to hold metal parts in proper position for welding.
  5. Perform complete welding and finishing operations for the repair of units.
  6. Train and instruct other welders.
  7. Use various handling devices in conjunction with welding tasks.
  8. Accurately maintain required records (production traveler, material traceability, and production records).
  9. Utilize visual examination.
  10. Observe and practice safety procedures and policies, attentive participation in company safety program and monthly safety meetings.
  11. Cooperative attitude and actions to achieve a harmonious work environment and   continual improvement of efficiency and quality.
  12. A limited number of welders will also serve as a painter.  Refer to painter job description.



  1. Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
  2. Maintain a neat and orderly work station and equipment.


Your Education Should Be…

  1. High School diploma or equivalent.
  2. Vocational welding program or equivalent experience.


Your Professional Experience Should Be…

  1. GMAW, GTAW and Sub-arc welding, and Air-arc gouging and plasma cutting machines.
  2. Complex blueprint reading and understanding of weld symbols.
  3. Understands and can accurately use measuring devices, such as micrometers, calipers, tapes, etc.
  4. Passes all certification tests.


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge and understanding of Company safety procedures and policies.
  2. Awareness and understanding of Company quality standards.
  3. Understand operations for welding and cutting machines.
  4. Knowledge and welding experience with metal such as aluminum, carbon steel, stainless steel and 9% NI.
  5. Understand and use of basic math.
  6. Knowledge and understanding of basic and complex blueprints.
  7. Knowledge and understanding of weld procedures.


Your Physical Work Environment Will Require…

  1. Frequent standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, twisting, and occasional crawling.
  2. Frequent lifting up to 75 lbs., occasional heavier lifting.
  3. Frequent pushing, pulling, and handling of materials.
  4. Repetitive hand movements during welding operations.
  5. Frequent carrying up to 75 lbs., occasional heavier carrying.
  6. Frequent climbing and working at elevated positions.


    Working Conditions/Hazards:

  1. Exposure to metal cutting, welding odors, welding flash and incidental acceptable limits of x-ray radiation.
  2. May involve exposure to chemical odors.
  3. May involve exposure to temperature extremes.
  4. Exposure to overhead objects and debris.
  5. Required use of safety glasses with side shields, ANSI approved steel-toed safety shoes, welding helmets, and hard hats (in designated areas) and other PPE as defined by specific operations.
