We are searching for an experienced Mechanical Design/Draughtsman to join our busy team based in Peterborough, UK.
As a Mechanical Design/Draughtsman, you will complete mechanical designs, calculations and produce accurate BoM’s ready for Procurement. You will be involved in the creation, modification and checking of SolidWorks models and layout / manufacturing drawings for custom engineered turbines. You will take ownership of project technical documentation and drawings to ensure specification, budget and on time delivery requirements are met.
This is a permanent position working 37 hours per week. We offer hybrid working for this role which will allow you to enjoy the balance of home working and collaboration time with the team in our modern, friendly offices which include free onsite parking.

What will you do…
- Clarify/agree on customer specification vs. norms and standards (Howden and external) with Senior Design/ Draughtsman/ Mechanical Design Team.
- Design components and assemblies ready for Manufacturing and Assembly
- Build Mechanical BoM’s ready for Purchase and build
- Create material for and lead internal and customer facing design reviews as the technically responsible engineer.
- Work with the project manager to initiate countermeasures in case of any delay or critical issues in engineering activities and/or deliverables.
- Support Supply Chain, Manufacturing and Assembly in case of any technical requests.
- Initiate and/or handle project related non-conformances.
- Write, update, and maintain tools, procedures, and standard specifications, design manuals related and owned by this function.
- Assist in the development of steam turbines units to enhance the product portfolio of the business
What do you bring…
To be successful you must have …
- Engineering Degree or HND with the relevant industrial experience in engineering
- Proven experience 3D-Modeling using SolidWorks (or similar software)
- Proven experience in mechanical engineering and welded fabrication structures
- Analytical and structured approach to work
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
- Good communication skills
It’s a bonus if you have (but not essential) …
- Experience of the Oil and Gas industry and/or similar heavy engineering environments
- Experience in vibration assessment for rotation equipment – preferably steam turbines
- Knowledge of interaction between mechanical and electrical equipment
- Familiarity with Quality and HSE management systems
- Experience on AutoCAD
- Chartered or on pathway to Chartership
