Exciting Opportunity for a System Engineer Steam Turbine

 

This is an exciting opportunity for a System Engineer Steam Turbine to join a vibrant business undergoing significant growth and looking to further develop its engineering capabilities.

 

As a System Engineer Steam Turbine, you will be responsible for all related activities involving our steam turbine product lines and will work on multiple projects. You will be involved in all areas of the steam turbine project lifecycle from project inception to installation and commissioning completion. This role would suit a system engineer with a strong understanding of systems engineering principles and the systems engineering V model. Experience in the Oil and Gas or Power Generation industries with knowledge of high- speed rotating machinery and its sub systems including PLC control systems is beneficial.

 

This is a permanent position working 37.5 hours per week. We offer hybrid working for this role which will allow you to enjoy the balance of home working and collaboration time with the team in our modern, friendly offices which include free onsite parking.

What Needs To Be Done?

  • To take the customer vision and requirements, stated standards and legislation, for the product and isolate the relevant parts.
  • Use this understanding to develop a set of derived requirements across multiple domain areas (Mechanical Engineering, Design, Electrical Engineering, Control systems, Instrumentation, Quality, Safety, Production etc.)
  • Take the lead in developing the customer-specific system design / architecture including Configuration Management.
  • Create documentation (Verification Cross Reference Matrix) that links customer requirements, standards and legislation to derived requirements, compliance statements, verification and validation activities and evidence.
  • Produce documentation that describes the system from a requirements point of view (System Requirement Document, Contract Design Engineering Datasheets (sub system requirements) and Order Datasheets (procurement specifications).
  • Maintain the linkage between these documents and the customer requirements, standards and legislation as well as ensuring Verification, Validation and Certification work is aligned.
  • Instrumental in compiling evidence and selling off requirements to our customers.
  • Monitors the systems engineering progress against the plan, addresses shortfalls, assists in developing recovery plans where required and ensures plans are implemented. Provides feedback to Engineering Manager as and when required on the progress.
  • Capable of formulating and implementing resolutions to technically challenging and/or high-profile issues with support from other engineering personnel and resolving with Project Management and customer.
  • Participates in a formal review of the project with relevant parties on completion and identifies opportunities for learning and development.
  • Ensure that Health and Safety practices are followed both in daily work and incorporated within product design.
  • Delivers commitments on time, budget, quality and specification.
  • To be a champion for systems engineering practices within the business.
  • Drives modularisation and standardisation of systems where possible.
  • Make recommendations within the business on potential improvements that further develop the benefits of systems engineering and the wider business (tools, processes, practices, skills etc)
  • Working closely with the Project Manager, proactively influence project planning and scheduling.
  • As part of the project team input to project controls and financial reviews.

 

To be successful you must have …

  • A strong understanding of basic systems engineering principles and the systems engineering V model, with the ability to implement this understanding in a dynamic working environment is essential.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience working in a systems engineering. Able to demonstrate experience in a similar role.
  • Experience in a design and engineering environment.
  • Experience of New equipment development projects through the entire life cycle.
  • Knowledge of other engineering disciplines.
  • Able to demonstrate experience in a similar role.
  • Experience of dealing with complex customer specifications.
  • The senior role must have experience of working with customer’s to understand their requirements.
  • Must be a self-starter with excellent customer service skills.
  • Confident and professional communication style, both written and oral.
  • Ability to build relationships and attention to detail are critical to succeeding in this role.
  • Must possess interpersonal skills enabling productive relationships with peers, superiors and others where formal reporting relationships do not exist. Excellent computer skills with MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook. MS Project beneficial.
  • Ability to travel UK and Worldwide.
  • Degree in related Engineering topic and Chartered Status preferred.
