The Role
Howden Thomassen Compressors (HTC) is a global engineering leader delivering mission-critical air and gas handling solutions that help clients improve environmental and operational efficiency. With over a century of expertise and a future-focused mindset, we’re committed to innovation, sustainability, and teamwork.
We’re now looking for a Business Controller with strong project finance experience to join our Finance team in Rheden. This is a hands-on, commercially focused role where you’ll act as a strategic partner to our operational and project teams — helping to manage financial performance across complex industrial contracts.
Rather than focusing on traditional reporting cycles, this role is embedded in the heart of our project delivery. You’ll be interpreting contracts, forecasting cash flow, tracking budgets, and identifying financial and operational risks. You’ll work closely with project managers, engineering, and commercial teams to ensure timely invoicing, accurate forecasting, and strong financial oversight throughout the full project lifecycle.
If you’ve previously worked as a Project Controller, Project Accountant, or Business Controller in an industrial or engineering environment — and you’re ready to influence real-world outcomes — we’d love to hear from you.
What will you do?
• Partner with project and operational teams to manage financial performance across the full lifecycle
• Interpret commercial contracts and ensure financial terms are reflected in forecasts and planning
• Monitor and manage project cash flow, invoicing schedules, and payment milestones
• Track budgets, actuals, and variances - providing insight and challenge to ensure delivery within financial targets
• Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks, escalating where necessary
• Support project planning and scheduling with financial input and scenario modelling
• Drive continuous improvement in project financial processes and controls
• Align finance processes with business needs across departments and location
Job Requirements
An ideal candidate would likely have the following profile:
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or International Business
• Extensive experience in a project-focused finance role within a multinational or industrial environment
• Strong understanding of project accounting, cash flow management, and contract interpretation
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence non-financial stakeholders
• Experience with business intelligence tools and ERP systems
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, project-driven setting with tight deadlines
• A collaborative mindset and a drive for continuous improvement
Our Benefits
• Type of Employment: Full time (40 hours a week)
• Collective Labor Agreement: The "CAO Metalektro" is applicable
• Additional Compensation: Commuting Allowance
• Holidays: 27 days
• Additional "ADV" days: 13 days
• Pension: We are with the PME pension scheme which is in line with the CAO Metalektro
