The Manager Engineering is accountable for all engineering activities, starting at proposal engineering support for sales opportunities and ending at the on-time delivery of all engineering deliverables. The role focusses on the performance and development of the Engineering organization, consisting of the project, product and package engineering teams. The Manager Engineering ensures that people and processes in the Engineering function are delivering to the performance requirements in terms of order intake, on-time delivery, cost of poor quality, variances, productivity and other relevant measures as applicable.

What needs to be done?

  • Ensures that processes are aligned across the various engineering disciplines and is responsible for realizing a unified engineering process and structure within the organization.
  • There should be a strong focus on people processes with and in the leadership team in Engineering to ensure talent and performance are maintained on a high level.
  • Responsible for establishing strong connections with the Chart Europe and global Engineering teams and uses this connection to optimize performance in terms of scalability, flexibility and cost reduction in the engineering function.
  • Develops a long-term strategy for the engineering function, taking long term business goals and market developments into account and translate this in to near and mid term objectives and development goals for the engineering function.
  • Accountable for the performance of the entire new build engineering function and performing all people leader related activities, including coaching, talent management, retention, performance management, recruitment, wellbeing, absenteeism management etc.
  • Establish a Zero Defects culture – ensure quality of deliverables, reduce cost of poor quality to zero.
  • Ensure 100% On-Time Delivery of detailed engineering milestones, capable of meeting demand fluctuations.
  • This position is part of the middle management team of our location that has a collective responsibility to achieve the company annual operational goals.

 

What do you need to bring?

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in leading people with respect to performance and development – ability to develop and coach people leaders.
  • Communication – strong communicator, easily establishing relations on individual and team level, able to build a motivating and stimulating culture within the engineering function.
  • Change management – demonstrated ability to effectively lead change in organizations.
  • Coordination and delegation – retain oversight on activities and priorities, delegate and prioritize accordingly.
  • Demonstrated competencies in identifying, implementation and delivering impact through process improvements.
  • Full proficiency in the English language to navigate in international business environments.
  • We prefer candidates with experience in EPC contracts and Engineered-to-Order projects and experience in leading technical proposal- or engineering activities.
  • We prefer candidates with experience in Configure-to-Order processes, product/solution standardization and experience in manufacturing engineering / DfX processes.
  • Pro-active attitude, ability to anticipate challenges and set-backs, ability to mitigate the impact for the business and for the team.
  • Creative mindset with a customer focus.
  • Team player and self-starter.
  • Strong analytic skills and fact-based decision making.
  • Occasional travel could be required.
