Howden Canada - Ventsim Solutions develops advanced simulation and modeling software used in mining, industrial, and military environments. We also design and manufacture the Ventilation On Demand (VOD) system for underground mines, optimizing airflow and ventilation efficiency.

 

Located in St-Bruno-de Montarville, we are seeking a Automation/Hardware Specialist to join our R&D team. 

 

What Will You Do?

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will develop and maintain control and monitoring system code for our hardware product lines. You will also support customer projects, testing, onsite installation, maintenance, training, and documentation updates.

Key Responsibilities, but not limited to:

  • Create electrical schematics, control panel layouts, and device layout drawings using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Prepare or oversee bills of material, issue requisitions, and manage related inventory.
  • Perform end‑to‑end testing, programming, startup, onsite commissioning, troubleshooting, and factory acceptance testing.
  • Conduct point‑to‑point commissioning of sensors and system inputs.
  • Interpret control logic and configure/calibrate sensors and transmitters.
  • Serve as technical lead for HMI/PLC automation system design.
  • Contribute to all phases of automation projects: requirements, design, coding, documentation, testing, validation, and support.
  • Participate in project meetings and assist team members with HMI/PLC‑related inquiries.

Your Physical Work Environment Will Require…

presence at the St-Bruno-de-Montarville site is required (approximately 50%); some business travel may be require.

Your Experience Should Be...

  • Collegial degree in HMI/PLC control and programming.
  • 5+ years of experience in industrial or mining process control and instrumentation.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical and electronic instrumentation.
  • Experience designing electrical power/control circuits and panel layouts to CSA & UL standards.
  • Experience with AC motor controls, including DOL starters, soft starters, and VFDs.
  • Familiarity with IEC 61131‑3 PLC programming standards (LD, SFC, FBD, ST, IL).
  • Experience with mine electrical feeder and distribution systems.
  • Experience in process automation, including airflow monitoring, dampers, regulators, and VFD integration.
  • Experience with communication protocols: Modbus TCP/IP, Modbus RTU, Ethernet/IP, Wi‑Fi, LTE, Leaky Feeder.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP/CRM tools.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

 

  • Bilingual French and English are required for this position. French language is used on the site.

The requirement for a language other than French for this position is determined based on the responsibilities associated with the position, which require daily collaboration with colleagues, teams, and partners outside Quebec province. The majority of our clients (over 95%) are companies outside Quebec.
