The Application Engineer III / Lead serves as a lead contributor in managing the technical and commercial evaluation of new equipment inquiries, collaborating across sales and engineering to deliver strategic, customer-focused solutions throughout the inquiry-to-order process.
What Will You Do?
- Oversees and leads the internal proposal process during the sales phase, coordinating across multiple departments—sales, engineering, project management, supply chain, legal, and others—to ensure proposals comprehensively address costs, resources, schedules, and commercial/legal requirements.
- Collaborates with Sales and Legal teams to assess and address potential legal risks and exposures, ensuring vendor agreements and proposals align with company requirements.
- Reviews customer specifications and develops aligned technical and commercial proposals for centrifugal turbo-expanders, turbo-compressors, and related equipment, aiming to deliver competitive bids that secure new and repeat business.
- Conducts detailed reviews of customer specifications and industry standards (e.g., API, ASME) to identify non-standard requirements, ensuring proposal packages and product designs meet agreed technical and commercial expectations.
- Requests and reviews vendor quotations to ensure alignment with project specifications and standards, working with suppliers to secure technically and commercially compliant final bids.
- Prepares detailed technical and commercial comments and exceptions lists, incorporating input from all relevant functional groups and vendors to clarify deviations and ensure alignment with project requirements.
- Maintains proactive and effective communication with customers to balance their needs with company interests, regularly providing project updates and anticipating information needs through clear written and verbal channels.
- Effectively manages project budgets and consistently exceeds performance targets on complex projects, while identifying opportunities to enhance capabilities and communicating with clarity and enthusiasm.
- Performs applications engineering and sales activities to meet key performance indicators such as booking value, margins, on-time delivery, and proposal pipeline, aligning efforts with overall company goals.
- Accurately maintain records of target accounts, opportunities, quotes, projects, contacts, and communications using approved company databases, including Salesforce.
- Collaborates with the Commercial/Sales team to lead customer-facing proposal and design discussions, guiding solution acceptance while gathering customer feedback to refine offerings.
- Listen, understand, and convey customer requirements.
- Provide status of ongoing projects and future projects.
- Proactively supports and mentors junior positions.

Your Experience Should Be...
- Competent in reading technical drawings including P&IDs
- Experience with API & ASME codes
- Expertise in Gas Dynamics / Auxiliary System Design / Control & Electrical or Mechanical Design a big plus
- Knowledge of computer software: AutoCAD, SolidWorks, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project
- Experience in the Oil & Gas, Air Separation and Power Generation required
- Experience in Risk Assessment analysis a plus
- Strong communication skills to interface with internal personnel and external customers
- Self starter who can work independently without close supervision
- Ability to independently facilitate intermediate technical conversations with suppliers / customers
Your Education Should Be...
- BS in Engineering or another related field.
- Experience in centrifugal air/gas turbo-expander/turbo-compressor / turboexpander-gear-generator or other rotating equipment
- 5 years of experience in bidding/proposal preparation and the ability to read and understand bid/proposal specifications, both from a technical perspective and commercial perspective, as related to Contractual Terms and Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to stand, walk and/or balance use hands and fingers to type, handle, feel, grasp, pushing, and pulling. The individual is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and talk and hear, operate office equipment (computer, copier, scanner, phone, etc.) and repetitive motion. The individual is occasionally required to climb, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The individual may occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus. This position is subject to an office environment and rare occasions to an uncontrolled manufacturing shop with environmental conditions, which could expose associate to noise and oils as well as subjected to hazards such as, but not limited to, moving parts and vehicles, heat and chemicals.
