We are currently recruiting for a Buyer to support our procurement team in The Woodlands, TX. We are open to a hybrid schedule for this role. Chart's procurement group is critical to delivering our products on time and within budget while maintaining customer satisfaction. The Buyer will be responsible for supplier management including order placement for direct materials and account-based purchase requisitions, ensuring on-time delivery, inventory management and cost savings. Other responsibilities include interfacing with other Chart departments to ensure best possible quality, pricing, delivery, and risk management are considered in the material and/or supplier selection process.


The ideal Buyer candidate will be a self-starter with strong time management skills and attention to detail.

What Your Day-to-Day Activities Will Be…


  • Prepares complex requests for bid and contacts vendors for bid quotations; analyzes bids received; issues purchase orders; prepares and monitors contracts, outlining performance standards, tolerances, warranties, and maintenance requirements.
  • Creates purchase orders, develops schedules, and expedites material or services to maintain on-time delivery to project.
  • Issue all drawings and specs to supplier as indicated in the requisition
  • Performs key purchasing duties including bid tab creation, supplier development, and review of surcharge and material pricing trends.
  • Documents and advises Project Manager and requisitioner of potential changes with supplier orders or schedules.
  • Updates and issues addendums to reflect changes on purchase orders.
  • Understands and applies Chart Industries and departmental policies, industry codes, and regulations governing purchasing activities and the awarding of contracts.
  • Assists in the production of training materials and presentations.
  • Assist Quality Engineers in evaluating and / or auditing supplier capabilities and performance.
  • Design, publish and maintain key performance reports using DAS (Reports Now).
  • Some Supplier visits required

Your Education Should Be…


  • Three to Five years of buying purchasing experience.
  • Experience in buying tagged / engineering project components for a large EPC or manufacturing organization a plus.

Your Professional Experience Should Be…


  • Ability to understand / interpret technical specifications for engineered / specialized equipment or material.
  • Understanding and proficiency in the theory and practices of purchasing, including ethics, standards, bid preparation and evaluation, competitive bidding procedures, and quality control.
  • Background in data collection techniques for establishing sources of supply, product, and vendor information.
  • General understanding of market research techniques, contract law, accounting and budgetary controls.
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and / or Six Sigma training.
  • General computer applications used in a technical business, such as spreadsheet, data base, word processing software.
  • Experience in sourcing from Low Cost Countries (LCC).
