The Project Accountant is responsible for project accounting activities and works with project management and production team to ensure accurate and timely reporting of project results. The position is responsible for monitoring progress of projects, investigating variances, monitoring revenues, expenses, and progress billings. The Project Accountant is accountable for reviewing, reconciling, and investigating WIP balances and project related accounts (ex. unbilled revenue, unearned revenue) on monthly basis. This role provides oversight and coordination of staff of accountants and clerks working with projects. The  Project Accountant assists the controller and assistant controller and VP of Finance on achieving departmental and divisional goals and objectives. The Project Accountant works closely with the Project Managers and provides financial and accounting guidance and insight on project planning, forecasting, budgeting, and individual project performance, and results. This position is based in The Woodlands, TX with a hybrid schedule.

What Your Day-to-Day Activities Will Be…

  • Assure that Percent of Completion accounting is being executed and recorded per US GAAP and that processes are in place for the business to understand and follow the requirements.
  • Support the business in achieving the financial targets per project, including leveraging and managing risks and opportunities with the PM's
  • Manage and Maintain project backlog and sub ledgers and monitor variances on jobs • Works with project managers and accounting to ensure costs are hitting the jobs correctly
  • Monthly close processing including review and approve journal entries, accruals, and analysis
  • Prepare monthly financial reporting package for review by Project Managers and Controllers 
  • Monthly balance sheet reconciliations review (billings in excess, job cost, etc.)
  • Monthly prepare job close out analysis for project managers
  • Run, Analyze and Validate profit recognition for percentage of completion jobs
  • Maintain and analyze backlog schedule monthly, including conversion estimates and variances
  • Assures that all monthly closing activity related to Projects are booked in a timely basis
  • Verifies intercompany accounts balance, coordinating with intercompany partners if entries are needed
  • Supports in monthly and year-end closing including year-end audits.
  • Assists with safeguarding the assets of investors
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.

Your Education Should Be…

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business

Your Professional Experience Should Be…

    • 5 years hands on accounting experience in Project Accounting
    • ERP Systems with JD Edwards experience
    • Project, construction or POC background
    • Manufacturing experience
    • Demonstrates good interpersonal skills along with excellent verbal/written communication skills
    • Ability to accurately communicate complex concepts to non-Finance/Accounting coworkers and upper management
    • Knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures of POC accounting
    • Knowledge of general ledger account structure
    • Ability to review, approve and reconcile assigned general ledger accounts
    • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel (vlookups, pivot tables, etc.)
    • Able to work in a matrix and remote organization
    • Has excellent critical thinking as well as analytical skills
    • Exhibits strong computer skills and knowledge of relevant technology, with working knowledge in JD Edwards and Anaplan
