Short Description

Chart Industries in Theodore, AL is looking for experienced GTAW welders.  We currently have several day/night shift openings.  Must be willing to work overtime, as needed.  

What Your Day-to-Day Activities Will Be…

  • Welds metal parts on fixtures including attaching jigs and clamps to hold metal parts in proper position
  • Determines type and gauge of steel to be welded; makes appropriate adjustments on large thickness variations
  • Uses blueprints and design sketches to ensure the proper dimensions and tolerance levels, and correct components are installed on the finished product
  • Updates and maintains all required documentation associated with job responsibilities
  • Maintains a clean work area and general housekeeping standards, including the care of assigned tools and proper disposal of hazardous waste 
  • Understands and practices established safety and quality standard procedures, including utilization of chemical solutions to clean containers
  • May be required to perform mass spec and visual inspections meeting stringent visual requirements
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned 

Your Education Should Be…

High school diploma or GED is preferred but not required

Your Physical Work Environment Will Require…

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this role, including close vision. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration. Medium to loud noise level in the work environment.  

Your Professional Experience Should Be…

  • Minimum 1-year TIG welding experience
  • Must successfully pass onsite weld assessment to qualify for a welder position
  • Basic math skills (weight measurement, volume, distance, multiplication and division)
  • Self-starter capable of managing workload under minimal direction and supervision
  • Interpreting blueprints and bill of materials (BOMs), highly desirable
  • Overtime and weekend hours, as needed
